Velda's Story

Nov. 2, 1926 - Nov. 22, 2015 Velda Sue Green, 89, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, in Marlow. Services will be at  p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dale Nease officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow. Velda was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Bray to William Franklin and Ruby Christell (Cearlock) Parker. In 1945 she graduated from Bray High School where she played basketball and was valedictorian of her class. Velda married Jerl W. Green March 30, 1945, in Marlow. She was a life long resident of the Marlow area. Velda was an active member of Cumberland Presbyterian church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Ministry. She was a Girl Scout troop leader, excellent cook, she canned vegetables, and loved playing with her grandkids. Velda also worked at the First National Bank of Marlow, which she held a dear place for in her heart, for 22 years. Survivors include husband, Jerl W. Green of Marlow; daughter, Marilyn Govich of Norman; twp sons, Jerry A. Green and Theresa Potthoff of Pauls Valley and Terry L. Green of Spring, Texas; eight grandchildren, Blake Green and wife Kristin, Mark Green and wife Angela, Milena Cornue and husband David, Mateja Govich and wife Stephanie, Nikola Govich and wife Elaine Bransford, Krissi Quinn and husband Bobby, Kory Green and Reanna Lauritsen; nine great-grandchildren, Elijah Green, Micah Green, Isaac Green, Logan Quinn, Avery Quinn, Niko Govich, Mila Govich, Jelena Govich and Charlie Govich. Velda was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, Wanda Nease and son-in-law, Bruce Govich. Pallbearers will be Blake Green, Mark Green, Mateja Govich, Nikola Govich, Kory Green and David Cornue. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lloyd Davis, Rodney Branum, Jim Davis, Bill Carter and Keith Nease.
