Barbara Hellen Ellis, a lifelong resident of the Meridian community, passed away Tuesday evening, March 6, 2018 at Elk Crossing, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 9th at 11 a.m. at Prairie Hill Church of Christ, with Mario Pineda officiating, assisted by Randy Southerland. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday 9-6. The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening from 5-6.
Barbara was born September 19, 1929 in Meridian, to Cheston E. and Mildred (Love) Branch. She graduated from Comanche High School. She and Oral Ellis were united in marriage on March 25, 1946 in Henrietta, TX. Barbara and Oral made their home in Meridian, where they raised their three children. She was a member of the Prairie Hill Church of Christ. She worked as a secretary at Meridian Elementary and later Comanche Elementary for over 33 years. Barbara loved to go camping at Lake Texoma. She was an avid OKC Thunder fan. She loved working in her yard and loved sitting on her porch swing. She was well known as an excellent cook. She and Oral loved to go out to eat and they loved attending all the local sporting events. Barbara deeply loved her church family. They were like family to her.
Survivors include two children: Cretia Whitney and husband Phil, Duncan, and Craig Ellis and wife Kelly, Comanche, OK; one brother, Jackie Branch and wife Karin, Comanche, OK; one sister, Bonnie Taylor and husband Tommy, Comanche, OK; one brother in law, Ray Clark and wife Sue, Comanche, OK; two sister in laws: Imogen McArthur, Antlers, OK and Fern Ellis, San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren: Wendi Bowles and husband Darrell, Duncan, OK; Benji Whitney and wife Amy, Mission, KS; Heath Ellis and wife Mandi, Comanche, OK; and Ryan Ellis and wife Tiffany, Comanche, OK; eight great-grandchildren: Laken Palmer and husband Tyler, Oklahoma City, OK; Cohen Whitney, and Reese Whitney, both of Mission, KS; Landon Ellis, Myles Ellis, Dillon Ellis, Raelee Ellis, and Rylee Ellis, all of Comanche, OK; and many special nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oral, in 2013; her son Ronnie Ellis, in 2009; one brother, Alton Branch.
The family would like to say a special "thank you" to the caregivers at Elk Crossing, for all the love and care you gave her.
