Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 14, at 10:00 A.M. at New Hope Baptist Church West, with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at the Duncan Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Bobby graduated from Duncan High School in 1959 and then studied surveying at Oklahoma State University-OKC. He met his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Sharon Ann Fulton, and they were married on September 23, 1961, at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Duncan.
He was employed by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation on January 29, 1962, at the Division 7 Duncan Residency where he served as the Field Party Chief. He then moved to Howle Engineering as a land surveyor (License #540) for five years before returning to work at ODOT where he worked as the Department Risk Manager and later as the Area Maintenance Manager until he retired on June 30, 2004, having worked a total of 42 years. He loved ODOT. He drove a church bus and enjoyed going to Falls Creek. He also served as a deacon at the Comanche First Baptist Church and the Duncan First Baptist Church until his health declined. He loved to take cruises and was on the last cruise ship to travel through the US-owned Panama Canal. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon; daughter, Cynthia Diane and husband Peter Burton; grandson, Layne William Christopher Burton; sister, Becky and husband Joe Hennessee; sisters-in-law, Bonnie McGarr and Sandra and Denny Brown; brother-in-law, Jim Finley; nieces, Callie Williams, Cassie and Kim Finley, Kelly Brown, and Debbie Corley; nephews, Jackie and Billy Martin, Cole Hennessee, Kevin McGarr, Jimmy and Brad Finley, and Brian Brown; and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patsy June England, and Peggy Jean McGarr; and brother, Harry Franklin McGarr.
