Carolyn Jane Byford, 85, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at New Hope Baptist Church West with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, May 1 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Carolyn was born March 1, 1932, at Gracemont, Oklahoma, to Velma and Clyde Hammett. She graduated from Gracemont High School where she was a standout basketball player. She attended college in Oklahoma City.
Carolyn worked for many years at Security National Bank as a Loan Officer. She then owned and operated a store in downtown Duncan called "Southern Box". She married Odell W. Byford on Feb. 14, 1987 and together worked the business.
Carolyn and Odell were members of and very active at New Hope Baptist Church West.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Odell Byford, of the home; three children, Johnny Matlock, Sandy Snider and Kay Dane; Odell's three children, Diana Glover, Steve Byford and Kelly Byford; two sisters, Shirley Hitt and Bobbi Steenbergen; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Velma and Clyde Hammett.
Pallbearers will be Greg Matlock, Kelly Byford, Walt Glover, Steve Byford, Cindy Byford and Diana Glover. Honorary bearers are Max Hitt and Jayme Baker.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chisholm Trail Hospice or The American Cancer Society.
