Charles Edward "Bud" McElroy passed away on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at the Duncan Regional Hospital at the age of 78.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at New Hope Baptist Church West. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery, under the direction of the Whitt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating and assisted by the Rev. Brad Allen.
Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Whitt Funeral Home.
Bud was born in Seminole, Oklahoma to Vesta and Willie McElroy on Dec. 13, 1937. Bud attended school and graduated from McLish High School at Fittstown.
He played basketball for both Murray State College and East Central University. He retired with Exxon-Mobil Oil Company. He was also an independent rancher in the Duncan area. He was an avid sports fan of Oklahoma University football. He and Beth Kent were married June 26, 1980, in Red River, New Mexico. Bud and Beth enjoyed spending time at Fun Valley in Colorado. He also enjoyed going to the Bowie Flea Market.
Bud is survived by his wife, Beth, of the home; his son, Eddie McElroy and wife Linda, of Enid; his daughter, Liza Hogue and husband Michael, of Garland, Texas; his step-daughter, Rene' McClintick and husband Harry, of Ardmore; and his step-son, Trey West and wife Jogie, of Ardmore. He is survived by his grandchildren, Trent McElroy and wife Rebecca, of Webber Falls, Mindy Whitlow of Webber Falls, Lee Elliott of Enid, Taylor Lauderdale and husband Vince of Enid, McKinzie McElroy of Enid, Charlie Hogue of Garland, Jordan McClintick of Denver, Colorado, Libby McClintick of Chicago, Illinois, and Samantha West of Ardmore; and his great-grandchildren, Rien and Ari Whitlow of Webber Falls. Bud is also survived by his sisters, Georgia Stewart of Ada, and Nancy Mayes and husband John of Ketchum.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, June Burch; and his brothers, Paul, Kenneth and Glenn McElroy.
