Erma's Story

Erma  Shaw, 89, passed away Monday,  Nov. 14, 2016, in Duncan.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel in Marlow.  Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.
Erma was born Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1927, in Stephens County, Oklahoma to Edward and Sarah Maud (Armor) Smith.  She attended grade school at Ferguson School and then graduated from Bray High School.  She married her sweetheart, Jay B. Shaw on Sept. 24, 1950, in Marlow.  The Wrights corner area was their home until they moved to Marlow in 1965.  Erma worked as a phone operator for 10 years for Bell Telephone but her true life's work was taking care of her family.  Erma was a very caring lady who put her special touch on all she did.  She loved to quilt and present her loved ones with her handmade quilt for their special life events, especially the birth of babies who all got one. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and then canning, it was not work to her, just part of taking care of her family.  Erma like to do tatting and taking care of her red roses were some of her favorite things.  Erma will be remembered for her never quit attitude, her caring and giving heart full of love for her family.  Her home and her family was her life.  She was a member of the Fifth Street Baptist Church. 
Survivors include, husband, Jay B Shaw of Marlow; son, Joseph Shaw and wife Debra of Porter, Texas; son, Jimmy Shaw and wife Lori of Marlow; four gandchildren, Jeremy Shaw and wife Teela, Jared Shaw, Brian Shaw and wife Kristin, Mason Shaw; five great-grandchildren, Eghen James Shaw, Jakob Lowther, Addisyn Shaw, Ely Martinez, Harper Shaw; sister, Mayota Morrison of Marlow; and several nieces and nephews.
Erma was preceded in death by her nine of her brothers and sisters
Pallbearers will be: Burl Graham, Eddie Lamb, Duane Morrison, Jared Shaw, Brian Shaw, Jeremy Shaw.
 Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 16, 2016, at the funeral home.
