The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home.
Jean was born to Lonnie and Bessie Long on April 18, 1930, in rural Jackson County, Oklahoma. After graduating from Eldorado High School, she attended business college in Lawton, Oklahoma, and was employed as a bookkeeper for Singer Sewing Machine Company where she met her life-long husband, Joel Robbins. After their wedding on August 28, 1948 they moved to Duncan and spent most of their lives there.
Joel was the original manager of Gibson's Discount Center and Jean was a devoted mother and homemaker.
For many years she was a volunteer at Duncan Regional Hospital where she was a team leader in the very first group to begin installing Lifeline Medical Alert systems for the elderly and infirm. Jean was a past president of Stephens County Home Extension Club. She particularly enjoyed being a volunteer poll worker during elections. She was an active member of Western Heights Baptist Church.
In 2009 declining health caused Jean to move to the Oklahoma City area to be near her daughter where she lived until her death.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy King, and her husband, Wayne, of Oklahoma City, her son, Dennis Robbins, and his wife, Priscilla, who reside in North Carolina.
The family expresses special thanks to the staff of Bellevue Health and Rehab Center and Integris Hospice who provided such loving care in her final days.
