George Adam Roberts Jr., of Duncan, Oklahoma, was born Aug. 16, 1948, in Santa Monica, California, to George Adam Roberts Sr. and Frames Wasilchok. He passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at the age of 68.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, with John Armstrong officiating. There will be no family visitation at the funeral home. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
George attended school in Santa Monica. Following graduation, he joined the US Navy in 1967, serving in the Vietnam War as an Airman until November 1970 when he was honorably discharged. He married Peggy Sue Armstrong on Nov. 9, 1967, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He worked as a parks technician for the City of Duncan, retiring in November of 2009 after 20 years of service.
George enjoyed watching Nascar racing and woodworking, making picture frames, baby beds, and rocking horses. He made furniture for the cemetery office and also made the wooden flag that hung on the wooden fence. Another project he completed was restoring an old wheat wagon that belonged to his grandfather-in-law for use at the Christmas parades.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy; his brother-in-law, Jerry and wife Gayle Armstrong of Lewisville, Texas; his sisters-in-law, Pat and husband Tom Culberson of Saugus, California, and Sandy and husband Wayne Stubblefield of Simi Valley, California; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made in George's name to the Taylor LeNorman Cancer Center in Duncan.
