Grady's Story

Grady Hogan Rayburn, 100, of Duncan, OK passed away Monday June 12, 2017.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday June 16, 2017 at the Bethel Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ron Meador officiating. Interment will follow at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan.
His family will visit with friends Thursday June 15, at the funeral home 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Grady Hogan Rayburn was born Sept. 28, 1916 in Wingate, TX to Robert and Lieu Emma Rayburn. His parents were sharecropper cotton farmers in the Altus-Duke-Olustee-Friendship area of southwest Oklahoma. He attended schools in Altus, Warren, Duke and Meridian. He had many jobs including truck driving and working as a roustabout in the oil fields. He moved to Duncan, with his parents, as a young teenager.
On May 7, 1938 he married Dovie Loreta Croy of Fleetwood, OK in Chickasha, OK.  They were married for 50 years until her death in 1988, and they had three children - Ronald Gene, Marilyn Yvonne and Michael Dean. During World War II, Grady began employment with the Rock Island Refinery (which later became Sunray DX and Sunoco) where he worked for 25 years. He then founded and operated Insultron Company, an insulation and storm windows/doors business in Duncan, until his retirement in 1990. He also served as a city councilman in 1987-1988 on the Duncan City Council. In 1990, he married Pauline Isaacs  and she preceded him in death in 2012.
He was raised in the Pentecostal faith and was a longtime, faithful member of Bethel Assembly of God Church, where he was a former deacon. Before that he attended the United Pentecostal Church in Duncan. He celebrated his 100th Birthday at the Bethel Church in 2016.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie; his parents; four sisters, Ivor Ray, Aileen Crafton, Willie Davis and Lucille Vestal; three brothers, Alton (Jack) Rayburn, Julian Rayburn and R.C. Rayburn; and by his second wife, Pauline.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Ron and Mary Rayburn of Grove, OK, Marilyn and Joe Marks of Duncan and Mike and Martha Rayburn of Norman, OK; four grandchildren, Tammy and spouse Greg Dysart of Grove, Rance Rayburn and spouse Schelese of Tampa, FL, Dovie Maria Rayburn of Norman and Anthony Rayburn of Norman; one great-grandchild, Dylan Dysart and spouse Ashley of Grove; one sister, Lorene (Mildred) Burton of Duncan; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a special caregiving friend, Kathy McCaig of Duncan; and many friends of his church and community.
The family sends special thanks to his longtime pastor, Ron Meador and his wife Jan of Bethel Church, and the staff and nurses of Country Club Care Nursing Facility.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Croy, John David Croy, Leonard Croy, Wayne Houston, David Cantwell, David Taylor.
