Hazel Dean (Gable) Melton, 13 days shy of 78 years of age, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be at 10:00am Tuesday Jan. 9, 2018 at Elk Avenue Church of Christ, Duncan, with Robert Teague officiating. Interment will follow at Hastings Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Monday, Jan. 8th from 5:00 to 7:00pm
Hazel Dean Gable was born Jan. 19, 1940 in Clarksville, Texas to Claudine and Leon Gable.
Hazel was raised in east Texas where she graduated top of her class of 31 before meeting and then marrying Gary Melton, one day after graduating on May 31st of 1958. They spent four plus years in Washington State where he was serving in the United States Army. During those years they had two children and then moved to New Mexico.
Hazel had a 25 year career with the State of New Mexico and Amoco, while raising her family. She and Gary moved back to his home town of Duncan, Oklahoma in 1991, where they were active members of Elk Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include her children, Amanda Jo and spouse Keith Kirkpatrick and James Allen Melton and wife Susie; two sisters, Sandra Moreno and spouse Fe and Nelda Screws; one brother, Johnny Gable; five grandchildren, Erin Player and spouse Jarrod, Adam Kirkpatrick and wife Susan, Evan Lucero and spouse Chris, Coby Gardner and Jeff Gardner; and six great-grandchildren, Tailor, Zachery, C.J., Gretchen, Avery and Christopher; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jean Wilson; and the love of her life, James Gary Melton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
A memorial may be donated to the Berean Children's Home PO Box 1009 Brookhaven, MS 39602.
