James "Jim"'s Story

James Lindle "Jim" Veal passed away March 7, 2017 in Apple Valley, California. Jim was born on May 11, 1938 on a farm in Stephens County in his grandparents home in the Owens Prairie Community, Stephens County, Oklahoma, to Horace and Ruby Belle Donehew Veal. He was the second of five boys.
He was raised by Ruby and his step-father, Charlie Stinnett. Jim attended grade school at Owens Prairie School in Stephens County. He graduated from Bray High School in Stephens County, Oklahoma. Immediately after graduation, at the age of 18, Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in 29 Palms, California, where he met Margaret Ann Nelson, and the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California.
After leaving the Marine Corps, Jim settled in Ontario, California, where he married Ann. They had two children, James Otto and Lori Ann Veal. Jim worked 45 years in the automobile industry, retiring after 30 years of faithful service from Citrus Motors in Ontario, California. Jim married Marlene Collins March 16, 1973. Jim became a father to Marlene's children, Marcie, Tom, and Crystal and treated them as his own.
Jim is survived by Marlene; son James and Ginger Zona Veal of Hesperia, California; daughter Lori Veal Yerxa (Alan) of Keaau, Hawaii; step-daughter Marcie Craft Davis of Apple Valley, California; step-son Tom and Janie Dineen Craft of Phelan California, California; daughter Crystal Veal Lee (Tim) of Upland, California; 11 grandchildren; Melissa Veal, Oak Hills, California; Britney Veal, Apple Valley, California; Carly Veal, San Bernardino, California; Jimmy Veal, Hesperia, California; Haley Veal, Hesperia, California; Tarin Davis Forsyth (Brett), Riverside, California; Kelly Craft McCartin (Casey), Mission Viejo, California; Matthew and Amy Nix Craft, Phelan, California; Kevin Lee, Upland, California; Kate Lee, Upland, California; and 8 great-grandchildren; Kylee and Logan Davis, Hesperia, California; Carter and Easton Forsyth, Riverside, California; Nolan and Ethan McCartin, Mission Viejo, California; Loretta and Lainey Jane Craft, Phelan, California.
He is also survived by three brothers, Frederic Anthony "Tony" Veal, Norman, Oklahoma, Harold Gene Stinnett, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Curtis Ray Stinnett, Duncan, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather and one brother, Charles Dewayne Stinnett, and one grandchild, Jerry Thomas Davis "JT" Jr.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Hesperia, 9280 Maple Street, Hesperia, California.
Burial was on March 27, 2017 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California. In lieu of flowers, the Veal Family is asking that donations be made in honor of Jim to First Baptist Church of Hesperia, 9280 Maple Avenue, Hesperia, CA 92345.
