James Allen Riggs Sr. , 83, of Duncan, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at Bible Baptist Church with Dr. Jeremy R. Taylor officiating. With interment following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Stephens County Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard Riders of Oklahoma. Family will receive friends Monday evening at the funeral home 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
James Allen Riggs Sr. was born on June 17, 1933 in Mason, Kentucky, to John and Clarcy (Kirk) Riggs. After graduating from high school James went on to serve his country joining the U.S. Army and servicing in the 65th Battery A Armored Division at Fort Knox, Kentucky. During his service he married the love of his life Betty Lee Willenbrink on Feb. 23, 1955, in Maysville, Kentucky.
James worked for Copland Corporation in the loading dock before retiring. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and a long time member of the American Legion. James enjoyed playing pool with his grandchildren, he enjoyed gardening when his health allowed him to and he loved crafting and attending craft shows, he liked to listen to old country music and visit lake Humphreys with his family to see the deer.
James is preceded in death by his wife of fifty seven years, Betty Riggs; parents, John and Clarcy Riggs; and a sister, Irene.
James is survived by his sons, James A. Riggs Jr., Jerry Lee Riggs and his wife Candy, Jeffrey Scott Riggs all from Duncan, OK, Kenneth Ray Riggs, John Avery Riggs, both from Sidney, OH, Robert Wayne Riggs and his wife Jamie from Winona, Minnesota, a daughter Rita Gail Goings and her husband Pete from Sidney, OH; sisters; Elizabeth Ann Orr, Betty Jane Dviorak; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Riggs, Wyatt Riggs, John Riggs, Kenny Riggs, Pete Goings, Brandon Riggs, Cameron Riggs, and Bruce Goings.
