Jerry's Story

Lifetime Stephens County resident, Jerry Elam, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at OU Medical Center, Wednesday November 15, 2017.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 18th at the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Ronnie Andrews and Robbie Harvey, great nephews of Jerry. The family will visit with friends at Don Grantham Funeral Home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.
Jerry was born on January 16, 1934 to Winnie Elam in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended Duncan Public Schools where he graduated in 1952. Jerry married the love of his life, the late Betty Elam, of Duncan, on January 23rd, 1954 in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were actively involved in local Square Dancing and Archery Clubs. They enjoyed vacationing to Colorado for many years as well as numerous trips with friends to Las Vegas, Nevada and Bossier City, Louisiana. Jerry was a talented carpenter, an avid bird hunter, and a collector of coins and Aladdin lamps. Jerry enjoyed hunting trips with his sons, Sam and Gerald and grandson Colt. He also enjoyed attending sporting and singing events for his granddaughters Geralyn and Katrina.
He was employed by Cook Motor and Machine and later retired from Arco Oil Company in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Elam, his mother Winnie Elam, and his brother Jack Elam.
He is survived by two sons Gerald Elam of Hastings, Oklahoma and Sam Elam and wife Connie of Corum, Oklahoma; sister Bobbie and husband Raymond Travis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother Bill and wife Pat of Kennewick, Washington; and three grandchildren, Colt Elam and wife Cassie of Corum, Oklahoma, Geralyn Epstein and husband David of Davie, Florida, and Katrina Hasanoglu and husband Nezih of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; four great grandchildren, Don and Rafael Epstein and Nezih and Cruz Hasanoglu; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be sons Gerald Elam and Sam Elam, grandson Colt Elam, nephews Robbie Harvey and Clendon Harvey, and close family friend Cole Bridges. Ray Hale and Suzette Pennington will be Honorary Pallbearers.
