Graveside funeral service for Joy A. Jackson-Mathis will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Joy A. Jackson-Mathis, age 81, Duncan, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 in Oklahoma City. She was born March 4, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Joy was a hard worker often working multiple jobs as a single mother while raising her children. She worked as a registered nurse at Reynolds Army Community Hospital, as a secretary for Hilltop Chapel and at the NCO Club at Fort Sill. She later went to work as a secretary with the Lawton Public Schools beginning with special services and retiring while secretary at Eisenhower High School.
Joy married James C. "Guv" Jackson on March 4, 1973 in Possum Kingdom, Texas. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1992. She later married Lon Mathis on July 6, 2013 in Marlow. He died on February 7, 2015.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marlow. She was active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary at both Post 5263 in Lawton and 1192 in Duncan. She had served as president, secretary and treasurer with the auxiliary. She enjoyed watching old western movies and reading books.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Knott-Smith and Bill, Duncan; four sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas P. and Debbie Knott, Rock, Kansas, Patrick A. Knott, Liberal, Kansas, Michael J. and Trish Knott, Conway, Arkansas and Robert L. and Della Jackson, Piggott, Arkansas; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Her parents, a brother, John, a sister, Mary, and a grandson, James Michael Pack, preceded her in death.
