Former Duncan resident Margaret Ann Putman Chesnut passed away on November 25, 2017 at a nursing facility in Westfield, Indiana. She was 82.
Ms. Chesnut was born August 20, 1935 to long time Duncan residents D.M. "Put" Putman and Margaret Putman. She was graduated from Duncan High School in 1953, and then from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and received a degree in music. She was active in a variety of local organizations, including Jolly Jills, and various singing and piano groups. Ms. Chesnut returned to live in Duncan in 1978 and for a time taught music at both Will Rogers and Plato elementary schools. She was also a participant in several of the Duncan Civic Capers shows, and was active in organizing reunions for the class of '53, as well as the all-class reunion in 2000.
Ms. Chesnut is survived by her three sons, Steve Schultz of San Jose, California, Brad Schultz of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Jeff Schultz of Carmel, Indiana, as well as seven grandchildren. She will be interred in Ft. Myers, Florida, where she lived for many years with her husband and former Duncan resident, A.E. Chesnut.
