Marion Leon Lindesmith, born on June 17, 1937, went home to his Savior on May 29, 2017, less than three weeks before his 80th birthday.
Services will be held at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan, Oklahoma at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 with Rev. Jerry Bradley officiating. Burial will follow will follow at the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Leon was born to Esta and Lonnie Lee Lindesmith in rural Addington, Oklahoma. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a child, and in track, basketball and baseball during high school. He graduated from Addington High School in 1955.
He married Oneva Ruth Dromgoole Lindesmith on Feb. 1, 1957, and had two children, Denny and Jeff. He worked as shop foreman at John Deere Schemault Implement Company for ten years, and then spent 25 years as a general assembler at the truck shop in Halliburton Manufacturing. After working hours, he was a life-long learner, taking vocational classes to acquire the skills to build a home for his family, which he completed in 1984. He served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma for 35 years. He enjoyed camping with family and friends, listening to gospel and bluegrass music, and studying military history. Known for his humor, when asked for the forecast, he always replied, "chili today, hot tamale."
Leons legacy was one of faithfulness to the building of God's kingdom through service to his family, friends, and church. As a craftsman in welding and mechanical construction, he had a reputation for maintaining the highest quality standards. He was a leader not only in his family, but also amongst his colleagues, church family, and community.
Leon is survived by his wife, Ruth Lindesmith of Duncan; his children, Denny Leon Lindesmith of Ada and William Jeffery Lindesmith and his wife Bonnie of Tucson, Arizona; his grandchildren, Traci Joy Johnson, Matthew Roy Johnson, Benjamin David Lindesmith, Ashley Brooke Lin, and Benjamin William Lindesmith; his great grandchildren, David, Elaine, Maya, Isabella, Gideon, and Providence; his brother Bill Pat Lindesmith of Comanche, his sisters Ruth Thompson of Iowa Park, Texas, and Joann Turvy of Springfield, Ohio and many other family and friends.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie Lee and Julia Esta (Morris) Lindesmith.
Pallbearers will include Benjamin David Lindesmith, Wayne Lin, Michael Lindesmith, Terry Marten, Jerry Pat Lindesmith and Steve Foster.
