Nima Lou was born to Dimple and Fuller Mason on November 5, 1930 in Caney, Oklahoma. After graduation from Caney High School, she was married to Leroy Benefield. She supported her husband as he attended Murray State College and completed his Vocational Agriculture degree at Oklahoma State University. Their first residence was in Perryton, TX. Within the first year they returned to Oklahoma, making Rattan their second residence. While teaching Vo-Ag at Rattan Leroy felt the call to preach. Nima supported him as he completed his Doctoral degree in Theology. The Baptist Church in Rattan called Leroy as their preacher. Both Leroy and Nima greatly enjoyed the pastorate in Rattan and established life-long friends. While serving at that church, both Leroy and Nima felt lead to become international missionaries.
Most of Nima's missionary life was served in Asia, specifically the Philippine Islands. Other mission trips were to India and South America. She loved the Filipino people and teaching the Bible. Following the mission work in the Philippines, Nima taught elementary school in Graceville, Florida while her husband, Leroy taught at the Florida Baptist Theological College. She completed her master's degree in Library Science at Troy State University at Troy, Alabama. Upon Leroy's retirement, Nima and Leroy returned to Oklahoma and Nima worked in the libraries of Amber-Pocasset, Oklahoma for several years.
Three years after the passing of Leroy, Nima married a fellow missionary from the Philippines, Victor Greene. At his death, Nima moved to Paul's Valley to live close to her children. Like her mother, Dimple Mason, Nima was an accomplished cook, seamstress and pianist. Her family and friends enjoyed many freshly cooked pies. As a librarian, she perfected her storytelling skills. She shared her passion for books with thousands of children.
Nima was preceded in death by her parents, Dimple and Fuller Mason, and her sister, Wanda Troxel. She is also preceded by LG Van Shuyver. Nima is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jim Lucas, her son and daughter-in-law, David and Cathey Benefield, her son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Annemarie Benefield and her daughter, Laura Pulido. Her grandchildren include Brad, Melinda, and Ben Lucas, Brian, Brett and Matthew Benefield, Ashley Schoonover, Mason and James David Benefield and Natalie and Nicholas Riso. She is blessed with twelve great-grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed the love and support of the Mason and Sanders family, especially Don, his wife Glenna, and her cousin, Teresa Sanders. Along with her family, Nima felt very connected to Leroy's family, his parents and siblings.
The family would like to thank Doctor Moore and Wright, the staff of Paul's Valley Hospital, The Willows, and Paul's Valley Hospice Care. Finally, the family appreciates the dedicated staff of Paul's Valley Care.
