Opal's Story

Opal Monett Grussendorf Sharp Wright, 94, longtime resident of Duncan passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Country Club Care.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kathy Gibson officiating and assisted by Cliff McGhghy.  Services are under the direction  of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
Opal was born on Sept. 10, 1922 near Childress, Texas to Wilkins Hamilton and Lola Bell (Copelin) Grussendorf.  She graduated from Draughn's Business School, went to work as a bookkeeper for Ridley's Sale Barn and for Halliburton Services in their Tool Development and Research as a drafter for 27 years.
Opal met the love of her life, Frank Wayne Sharp, at a USO dance in Childress, TX during World War II. Ballroom dancing became a lifelong passion for her.  She married Frank Wayne Sharp and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1963. She married Jackie Lee Wright and he preceded her in death on July 14. 2008.
Opal was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served more than 50 years as Sunday School Dept. Secretary.  She was an awesome 3rd base player for the Duncan Women's Slow Pitch Softball League.
She had an half acre garden on Beech Road where she produced and canned okra and tomatoes for the entire family and kept herself fit by mowing all the acreage on Beech Road.
She is survived by Frank and Opal's three children; Betty Betts of Greensboro, NC, Keith Sharp and spouse Lou Ann Phillips of Houston, TX and Janet Peters and partner Steve Ribnikar of Duncan, OK.  Two grandchildren; Angela Christine Sharp and partner Sean Sutherland of Houston, TX and Andrea Michelle Quintanilla and spouse Robert Quintanilla of Houston, TX.  Three great grandchildren; Logan Sharp Quintanilla, Sydney Adelle Sutherland and Brooklyn Adair Sutherland all of Houston, TX and one sister Imogene Hobbs of Amarillo, TX.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents Wilkins Hamilton Grussendorf (1893-1973), Lola Bell (Copelin) Grussendorf (1896-1969). Two husbands; Frank Wayne Sharp in 1963 and Jackie Lee Wright in 2008.  Two brothers; J.D. Grussendorf (1915-2005), Roy H. Grussendorf (1920-1997) and one sister Lillian Willie Anderson (1917-2008).
