Orval's Story

The Rev. Orval Ray Howard, 91, of Marlow, passed away Saturday,  May 13, 2017 in Lawton.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. J.O. Howard  officiating.  Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremations Services in Marlow.
Ray was born Thursday,  Dec. 3, 1925, in  the Woodlawn area to John Oscar and Sarah Frances (Dillon) Howard. He was raised in the Marlow area and attended school in Duncan. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II from March 1944 until January 1946. He later married his lovely wife, Juanita Vestal, in Duncan on Jan. 31, 1946. Ray attended Seminary in Dallas and earned his Bachelor's Degree. Shortly after his graduation, he began ministry with the Methodist Church in Mangum in 1955. The couple lived in various places in Oklahoma over the years ministering in Methodist churches and raising a family. Following his retirement, they moved back to Marlow in 1987. Ray's hobbies and accomplishments included, former Commander and past President of the VFW, going fishing, going to garage sales and auctions, playing the guitar, singing, spending time with friends at the Senior Citizens Center and Nutrition Center. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marlow.
Survivors include, son, Orval Dean Howard and wife Linda of Marlow; daughter, Patricia Ann Hughes of Duncan, daughter, Suzette Davis of Rogers, AR, and daughter, Julia May Foley Bey and husband Rene of Shreveport, LA; 2 grandsons, 10 granddaughters, 12 great-grandsons, 6 great-granddaughters, 2 great great-grandsons, and 10 great great-granddaughters. He is also survived by brother, J.O. Howard and wife Helen of Lawton; brother, Robert Howard of Mustang, and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Howard; granddaughter, Tina Ray Wade; and great-granddaughter, Mia Hughes. He was also preceded in death by brothers, W.M. Howard, John E. Howard, E.H. Hershal Howard, Joseph Iralee Howard, and Kenneth Howard; and sisters, Melisha Ellen Clark, Katherine Coker, Lenora Snider, Ethel Bernice Alexander, Joyce Howard; and his parents. 
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
