Ellis, PH.D. Richard Stewart "Stew" of Grand Blanc, Michigan, age 70, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice.
Stew was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on Feb. 1,1947, the son of Dr. Richard and Lyn (Hampton) Ellis and was a resident of Grand Blanc since 1982.
On December 23, 1966, he married Kathryn Dover. Stew was a Professor at Kettering University for 35 years, where he was instrumental in advancing campus computing. He authored the university's first faculty handbook and served as faculty advisor to the GMI Firebirds autocross club.
Stew enjoyed playing music with Flint's Homegrown Contraband.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn; sons, Darin Ellis and wife, Mari; Shawn Ellis and wife, Rika; granddaughters, Megan and Sarah; brother, Tom Ellis and wife, Sue; sister, Susie McGee and husband Raymond; and many nieces and nephews.
