Robert Eugene Brewer Jr., 69, of Duncan, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Born to Robert Eugene Sr. and Geneva Brewer on Feb. 27, 1947, at the Kiowa Indian Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. Robert attended Woodlawn and Duncan Public Schools; as well as, Cameron University.
He married Carlos Hall on June 14, 1965; they had five children, Chandria, Robert Eugene III, Brett, Bart and Cody.
Robert joined the Marine Corp in 1967 and participated in the "hardest bootcamp" in the history of his branch. He served in the Marine Corp as a Lance Corporal from 1967 to 1973, with two tours in Vietnam. Robert lived the majority of his life in Duncan.
He was known by many as a family man and a master handyman, who could repair anything he touched. An automobile man by profession, Robert was a Certified Master Technician for General Motors, ASE Master Certified, and the first Master Certified Technician for Toyota in the state of Oklahoma. In his 55 years as automobile technician, he worked passionately for dealerships from Oklahoma City to Dallas; moving into operating his own automotive shop, Brewer's Auto, in Duncan.
Robert is survived by his wife, Carlos Brewer, of Duncan and his five children, Chandria Youngblood and husband Glen Youngblood, of Duncan, Robert Brewer III and wife Lori Brewer, of Duncan, Brett Brewer, of Duncan, Bart Brewer and wife Ashley Brewer, of Duncan, and Cody Brewer and wife Keri Brewer, of Duncan. Affectionately called "Papa," he is survived by his 14 grandchildren: Nathan, Tasha, Raven, and Dylan; Rachael and husband Jacob; Ashley; Noah, Ethan, Emily, and Jaxon; and Hailey, Paige, Landon, and Morgan. As well as two great-grandchildren: Amelia and a great-grandson due in February. He is also survived by a brother, Rick Brewer, and many other friends and family.
Robert was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, John and Cornelius Howell, who raised him from birth; his grandparents Amos and Annie Howell; his father, Robert Eugene Brewer Sr., his mother, Geneva Hawkins, and his dad, Sam Hawkins. As well as, a brother, Ivan Dale Ritter, and a sister, Barbara Hudson and husband Larry Hudson.
Visitation will be on Monday, Jan. 2 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Carter-Smart Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3 at New Hope Baptist West Church in Duncan, Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at Duncan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to military charities and foundations in honor of Robert.
Pallbearers will be David Slate, James Slate, Keith Howell, Tony Howell and Clay Howell. Honorary Pallbearer Don Nutt.
Robert was the patriarch of his family and will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones.
