Roger "BEAR"'s Story
Roger "BEAR" Notley, 65, of Duncan, Oklahoma was called to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday Nov. 16, 2017 surrounded by his family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30pm Monday Nov. 20, 2017 at The Well, a ministry of the First Christian Church, Duncan, with Gregory Chambers officiating. Don Grantham Funeral Home assisted the family with cremation arrangements.
Roger was born in Shawnee Oklahoma on January 26, 1952, to Martha Jane Notley and Milton Claire Notley. He attended school in Talihina until moving to Anadarko, where he graduated in 1970. He played numerous sports including football and baseball while in school. Roger attended Eastern Oklahoma State where he received his Associates in Civil Engineering Technology in 1973. He received his Bachelor of Science Education and his Oklahoma Teachers Certification from East Central State University in Ada in 1976. He completed his studies in 1996 receiving his Associates of Applied Science and his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems at Cameron University in Lawton Oklahoma. He earned numerous awards during his time in school including the Student of the Year Award, Student Individual Performance Award and was President of the DPMA Chapter at Cameron University.
During his time at East Central University Roger met his wife Pat while working together as part of the campus grounds crew. They fell in love and were married at First Christian Church in Ada Oklahoma on January 3, 1976 and remained together until his death.
Roger is survived by his wife Pat and his children Amanda and her husband Sean Hunt of Durant, and Melissa and her husband Jayson Weathers of Duncan. He was preceded in death by his brother Jerry and survived by his brother Michael Notley and his wife, Mari of South Carolina. He had two grandchildren Avery and Austin Hunt and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was employed by Advanced Systems Technology as a Programmer and Analyst in 1996 to 1997 where he established and maintained system support for military radar systems. He worked for Cryovac Division, Sealed Air corporation in Iowa Park, Texas from 1999 to 2000 where he assigned and implemented mainframe security for all users at local locations.
Roger spent most of his life employed by Halliburton Energy Services in Duncan Oklahoma. He held numerous titles while at Halliburton including, Purchasing Specialist, Supply Coordinator, Factory Planner, Master Scheduler and Production Controller. He received numerous awards at Halliburton including Most Valuable Player Award. Within the thirty-three years of his employment he made numerous friends that he continued to see and keep contact with until his death.
Roger was a member of The Well First Christian Church of Duncan where he became a servant of the community through Christ. He biked through the community with Spokes for Hope to ensure that all those hungry had a meal and was there for those in need serving at the John 3:16 community dinners. He was also a long-term member of the Duncan Evening Lions Club. He was a known figure at Eastland Diner where he ate daily while talking to friends about OU football and past times. His greatest love though ...besides OU Football... was his family.
Roger was a loving husband, father and considered one "AWESOME" grandfather. He loved his family with all he had and did all he could to please them. He will be always be remembered and missed dearly by all. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your charity of your choice.
