Ruth Bernice was born on February 7, 1924 in a small town in Texas to Peter and Clara Bishop. Ruth was born to parents of modest means. Having lost her mother when she was very young, she became the woman of the household learning to cook and help out with her father, Pete Bishop, and her uncle during the years of the great depression. Not being held back by the hardships her family faced, she was bright, and worked hard to finish high school.
As a young woman Ruth moved to the Fort Worth, Texas area seeking work. There she worked as a waitress until her early twenties when she moved to Duncan, Oklahoma. While working at a local restaurant, she met her first husband, Buster Walling Sr., and the two were married in 1946. Within a few years they were blessed with a son, Buster Walling Jr. From bringing her son and his neighborhood friends lunches at a converted shed Buster Jr. used as a neighborhood clubhouse, to being the den mother to his local cub scout troop, Ruth devoted her life to her family. She also allowed her son to go out and experience the world on travels around the country with his aunt and uncle who treated him as their own son.
Later, Ruth was remarried to Frank Siegenthaler. She and Frank purchased a home in Duncan with enough property to raise some animals and a large truck garden. Ruth particularly enjoyed canning preserves, and growing and cooking all variety of fruits and vegetables with her fired okra being the best. Even though she was happily remarried she continued to help care for Buster Walling Sr. as his health declined. In the later years Ruth would work with her sister in law, Annice Sledge in her oil business. Her math and strong organizational skills made her an excellent and reliable bookkeeper. As her son's family grew up, Ruth and Annice insisted they come down to stay during the summer months and those were the best times of their lives.
Ruth is survived by her son, Buster "Buzz" Walling Jr. and his wife Donna of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Buster Walling Sr.; her second husband, Frank Siegenthaler; her brother in law, Olen Dean Sledge; her sister in law Annice Sledge and her parents.
Pallbearers for the service will be Andrew Walling, Brett Walling, Chase Walling and Graham Walling.
