Sally Rawls passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017 peacefully with family at Elk Crossing Nursing Home in Duncan, Oklahoma of natural causes. She was 86 years old.
Sally Jones Rawls was born to Ray C. and Sarah Louise Jones in Stillwater Oklahoma. She grew up in Stillwater with two sisters, Georgianna (Jones) Trigoning and Pat (Jones) Zahler and two brothers, Dr. Harry B. Jones and Raymond Jones.
She attended Stillwater High School as well as University of Texas and Oklahoma State University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. In 1949, she met James Edward "Eddie" Rawls in Red River, NM. They were married in 1950 and had four children, Guy Rawls, Gay (Rawls) Faulkenberry, Mark Rawls and Amy (Rawls) Miller. They lived in Stillwater, OK, Corpus Christi, TX, Casper, WY, Midland, TX, Ardmore OK and finally in 1968 Duncan, OK. She worked for the law firm Fitchel, Culp and McMillon in Ardmore and Jack B. Smith Land Services in Duncan. Sally enjoyed cooking and collecting antiques well into her later years. She and her husband Ed made their first trip to Santa Fe, NM in 1978 and continued for many years collecting fine art. She was a member of the Hestian Study Club and the Pi Beta Phi Alumni Association both in Duncan.
Sally was blessed with seven grandchildren, Garrett Rawls and wife Kali of Westminster, CO, Kari Rawls (Riedel) and husband Brandon of Thornton, CO, Hunter Harris and wife Andrea of Lindsay, OK children of Mark and Diana Rawls of Duncan, OK. Guy Faulkenberry of Norman, OK son of Gay and Roger Faulkenberry of Duncan, OK. Peyton Miller of OKC, Preston Miller of Allen, TX and Casey Miller of Allen, TX children of Amy and Wes Miller of Allen TX. She also has seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and one son, Guy Rawls, as well as husband J. Ed Rawls.
The entire family would like to thank the staff from Elk Crossing Nursing Home and the Chisholm Trail Hospice for all their help and support. They would also like to thank all of Sally's caregivers over the years with a special thank you to Isabel Dickinson of Duncan for all her love and loyalty.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Duncan Cancer Center or Chisholm Trail Hospice would be appreciated.
