Sylvia Marie Allred, 98, and long time resident of Duncan. Oklahoma was called home on December 9, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 15 with David Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Marie was born on May 1, 1919 in Penrose, Colorado to Burtis Howe and Sylvia Clotele Howe (Marsh).
For those that knew Marie remember she was a petite feisty woman full of energy and sunshine. During her younger days, she met her soul mate, James T. (JT) Allred and fell hopelessly in love. They were married in 1937 and remained married for 75 years until his death in 2012. Many of her friends and family remember Marie as a good mother, avid golfer, great cook, experienced bridge player, talented artist and enjoyed fishing. Considering JT loved fishing, Marie was a perfect match. After all, who couldn't love a woman who could catch dinner, dress it and cook it! She enjoyed traveling. She visited many countries such as Venezuela, France, Germany, Panama Canal, and attended a bull fight in Spain. She was active in the Heritage Center, many American Indian Schools and organizations, and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Duncan and was a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Sylvia and Burtis Howe, her true love and husband, JT; and her younger sister, Jimmie Jean Sutherland.
She is survived by her sons, James R. Allred and his wife Beatrice of Huntsville, Alabama and Garry D. Allred and his wife Kathy of Marlow, Oklahoma. She leaves behind six grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. A very special thanks to the nurses and staff at Country Club Nursing Facility for their care.
