Tanner's Story

Tanner James Shorter, 22, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, in Duncan.
 Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Duncan, with the Rev. David Woods officiating.  Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow. A family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at the funeral home.
Tanner James Shorter was born Sunday, Sept. 11, 1994, in Duncan to Carey James Shorter and Kristi Lynn Stevens. Tanner married the love of his life, Makenzy (Williams) Shorter on Sep. 17, 2016, in Foster. The couple were expecting their first child and he was excited to become a father. Tanner worked for Halliburton as an equipment operator and was also a volunteer firefighter for Empire. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, bow fishing and riding his Razor. In his free time Tanner enjoyed working on his trucks. He had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. Tanner was a FFA officer, showed hogs, and was a talented quarterback for Empire HS. He attended Beaver Creek Cowboy Church. He was a devoted husband, friend and brother. Tanner will be missed by all who loved him. 
Survivors include, wife, Makenzy (Williams) Shorter of Duncan; father, Carey James Shorter and  his wife Kathy of Duncan; mother, Kristi Lynn Stevens of Waurika; brother, Gunner Castleberry of Fort Worth; sister, Chylie Teel of Wheatland, WY; grandparents, Harold and Carolyn Shorter of Duncan and Georgia and Kim Spoonmore of Waurika. Additional survivors include father and mother in law, Mark and Stacy Williams of Foster and brother in law, Gage Williams of Foster.
 Preceded in death by his great grandparents.
 Pallbearers will be: Gage Williams, Cole Bridges, Dakota Bilbrey, Colt Elam, Ryan Rochell, Victor Gomez.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Empire Volunteer Department and Gunner Castleberry. 
Family visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 11 from -8 p.m. at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home.
