Thelma Maxine Dempsey Woolf Clegg, a lifelong resident of Comanche, peacefully passed away Monday afternoon, October 30, 2017. She was 89 years old. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Ronny Bernard officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Viewing will begin Wednesday afternoon. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday evening from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Thelma was born April 15, 1928 in Loveland, OK to Walter A. and Lena (Sanders) Dempsey. She was one of six children. Her siblings were Alonson Dempsey, Paul Dempsey, Christine Dempsey, Chloi Hughes, Geneva Hughes, and Marie McMasters. She married William Woolf, and to this union came six children: daughters Jan, Sue, Pam, and Marquita; and two sons, Leon and Phillip. She later married Bill Clegg, and he preceded her in death. Thelma had a green thumb, she could grow just about anything. She also enjoyed garage sales. She was an outstanding cook, and she loved preparing meals for her family. Thelma was one of the last of the "pioneer women". She picked cotton, washed the clothes outside with a washboard, and joked that they had an outhouse, but it was a two hole outhouse!She is survived by five children: Sue Chisum, Empire, OK; Pam Jackson and husband Bobby, Garland, TX; Marquita Wilkinson and husband Wayne, Duncan, OK; Leon Woolf and wife Debbie, Marlow, OK; and Phillip Woolf, Oklahoma City, OK; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Bud Hensel; also numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Jan Hensel; a great-grandson Clinton Careathers; one son-in-law Sam Chisum; and her brothers and sisters.Serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Jackson, Jeremy Woolf, Jacob Astley, Barry Harris, Myles Burton, and Joey Harris.
