Thelma's Story

Thelma Jean Sawyers, of Comanche, Oklahoma, passed away in Topeka, Kansas, following a short illness at the age of 87.
Jean was a long time resident of Comanche, Oklahoma. She worked for many years in the insurance industry. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Comanche Garden Club, the 49ers Club and the Iris Club. Jean was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful flower gardens and her irises in particular. She is known for her amazing coconut cream pies.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Howard Best; her loving husband, Raymond; her siblings, Glenn Best, Kenneth Best and Sissy Williams and her loyal canine companion, Daisy Dog.
She leaves behind her son, Ray Sawyers (Peggy) Sawyers, of Manhattan, Kansas. Her three grandchildren, Eric Sawyers (Leslie), Jason Sawyers (Tara), Dené Mosier (Zach) and her four beloved great-granddaughters, Ashley Sawyers, Elizabeth Sawyers, Grace Mosier and Gabrielle Mosier. She is also survived by her sisters Rosa (James) Tidwell and Inez Dodson and many loving nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation held at the funeral home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 30 at St.Paul's United Methodist Church in Duncan with the Rev. Andrew Haire Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
