Verna Louise White, 88, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, in Duncan.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Heitner officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Municipal Cemetery.
Verna Louise was born Dec. 17, 1927, on a farm near Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Helena and Emil David. She was the Valedictorian of the 1945 class of Gray Consolidated School in Iowa.
She married James S. White on Nov. 15, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved to Duncan, Oklahoma in June of 1950. Verna was the mother of three sons, James, Douglas and George, and a daughter, Rhonda.
She was a founding member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Duncan and for many years was the organist for that church. Verna worked in the public school system as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed painting and was active in local Garden and Craft Clubs for many years.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, James S. White, of the home; two sons, James White and spouse Connie and Douglas White, all of Norman, Oklahoma, a daughter, Rhonda Peterson and spouse Dennis of Spiro, Oklahoma; a sister, Leola Kanning of Alantic, Iowa; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, George White in 1996.
