Vivian "Averene"'s Story
Vivian "Averene" Underwood-Walker, 88, of Lubbock, Texas and longtime resident of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 25, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas with her family by her side. A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, September 30th at the Duncan Cemetery with Pastor Bryan Pain officiating. Services are under the care of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10:00AM 11:00AM at the funeral home.
Vivian Averene Walker was born on May 31, 1928 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Hollis Vivian Underwood, and Edna Pearl (McNeil) Underwood. Averene attended Wynnewood High School, where she excelled in sports and was a basketball star in high school.
She married the love of her life, Daniel Warren Walker, on June, 28 1950 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. After marrying, she invested in real estate and worked side-by-side with her husband in his Engineering business. Averene Walker was a devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter.
She was a member of Central Heights Baptist church in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was loved by all, and wherever she was there was laughter.
Averene was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Warren Walker; and her parents, Hollis Vivian Underwood and Pearl Underwood.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Ann Strange, and her husband, Dr. David Strange of Lubbock, Texas, and Vicki Walker Parker of Waco, Texas; her grandchildren, Jennifer Strange McNeill and her husband Chris McNeill, Dennis Strange, and his wife Michelle Strange, Matthew Parker, and his wife, Kelly Parker, and Daniel Parker; her great-grandchildren, William Parker, Sam Parker, Ruby Strange, Grace Parker, Madison Strange, Dax Strange; her sisters, Dorothy Dunn and Frances Whatley; and a brother, Buddy Underwood.
