Yvonna Jean Messersmith, 83, longtime resident of Duncan, OK passed away Friday Feb. 16, 2018 in Duncan.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday March 10, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Janice Sharp officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery. Services are under the care of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Yvonna Jean Gill was born July 25, 1934 in Waurika, OK to Sibyle Wanda (Spivey) and Floyd Benjamin Gill. She was a 1952 graduate of Duncan High School and attended Cameron University. Yvonna married Jerry Lee Messersmith on Aug. 8, 1953 in Duncan.
Yvonna was employed with Universal Fidelity Life Insurance Company and Halliburton Services. She and Jerry were charter members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and later transitioned to First United Methodist Church in 1964 and both faithfully served in many areas including Christians Concerned. Yvonna was also a member of Jaycee Janes and Elk Lodge.
Survivors include her four children: Gil Messersmith and wife Sunnie, Renee Messersmith, Guy Messersmith and wife Patty, all of Duncan, and Greg Messersmith and wife Elizabeth of Belmont, CA; a sister, Jeanette Brown of Lebanon, OK; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and close friends.
Yvonna was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Messersmith on Aug. 27, 2017; her parents; a daughter-in-law, Tammi Messersmith; and two grandchildren, Nikki (Messersmith) Barnes and Jerrad Messersmith.
