Clayton Eugene Waller (1932-2016) died peacefully on July 8 in Howick, South Africa.
He is survived by his wife, Ina Baer Waller (South Africa), brother Donald Wayne and Janiece Waller (Marlow, Oklahoma), and children Peter and Amy Ouborg (California) and Carmen and Robert O'Donoghue (South Africa). He is also survived by his American family, nieces and nephews: Kenny and Rhonda Waller, Mike and Terri Waller, Vicky and Ruben Sanchez , Danny and Debbie Waller, Charlie, Cindy and Scotty Wyatt, Karen and Gary Keese, Kathy and Steve Garner, Jerry Wayne, Darrell and Keith Waller, Junior and Lea Ann Waller, Harold and Julie Waller and Tonya and Mike Chesser. He was grandfather to his international family: Kyle and Marthe (Norway), Ross and Laura (Zambia), Peter and Karen (South Africa), and Robin Ouborg (California) and great grandfather to Rachel and Murray.
Clayton had a great gift for service to his family and community. In the 1950s, he served honorably in Korea and then obtained his degree in Religious Studies from Abilene Christian College. He became a missionary with the Church of Christ and worked in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe for many years. In 1977, he and Ina were married in Umtali, Rhodesia. He was a respected teacher at the Noe Mission there, and later in life, donated his extensive religious text collection to the mission. After returning to the U.S. in 1978, he and Ina worked in Duncan and in Lawton, Oklahoma, and were members of the West Side Church of Christ, finally retiring to South Africa in 1992, where he continued to preach and worship at the Pietermaritzberg Church of Christ. He lived his last year at the Amberfield Frail Care in Howick, where he received kindness and care. His wife and family take comfort that, after his many years of labor and travel, he is now at rest with his Lord.
