Funeral services for Leisa Helzer, of Elgin, will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Elgin Public Schools Fine Art Center with Larry Thoma officiating. She passed from this life to be with Her Lord and Savior on October 3rd, 2017 at the age of 62 years old. In honor of Leisa's wishes, she will be cremated. Visitation is available at the Elgin Funeral home Friday, October 6, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Leisa was born on August 10, 1955 in Oklahoma City, OK to Mildred (Sanders) and Orville Oglibee. She was raised in Duncan, OK. She attended Cameron University in Lawton, OK where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She married Mike Helzer of Thomas on June 14, 1980. Leisa began her teaching career in Lawton, but moved to Elgin Elementary in 1983 and there she taught for 33 years. She loved teaching and helping shape lives of children all around her as well as influencing thousands of children throughout her extraordinary teaching career. She also enjoyed painting and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. She was an amazing woman with many talents, a heart full of so much love for those around her and an infectious smile and laugh that would light up the room. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her Husband, Mike Helzer; her two children Kimber Helzer and Fiancé Jason Patchett; John Helzer and wife Jessica Helzer. Her sister Diane Cowen and husband Wes; Sister Jean Oglibee, and brother Mark Oglibee. Mother In Law, Roberta Sutton; Brother In Law, Joe Helzer and wife LaRue, and Sister In Law, Carol Bone. Six Grandkids: Xavier, Michael and Jaxon Patchett, Amelia, Lillian, and Gwyneth Helzer. Many other relatives including her nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Mildred and Orville Oglibee, Father-in-law Keith Sutton.
