Services for Albin Lewis "Monk" Firestone, Jr., 79, of Velma were scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 28, 2022, at the Velma First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Velma.

Monk was born January 22, 1943, at Morenci, Arizona to the late Mr. Albin L Firestone, Sr. and Mrs. Oma May (Albertson) Firestone. He departed this life Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Duncan Regional Hospital.


Monk grew up in the Graham/Pooleville/Ratliff City areas and attended school at Graham and Fox. He joined the U.S. Marines, serving in Barstow, CA, as a Sharpshooter just before Vietnam. Monk married the former Miss Elizabeth "Ann" Massie on October 20, 1964, in Gainesville, TX. They lived in Ratliff City for five years and then made their home in Velma. Monk loved to draw and was a talented artist. He loved the Lord and loved sharing the word with others. Monk played the guitar and loved to sing. He was a talented at wood work and talented at building things. His family would say, Monk could do anything. He was a member of the Ratliff City Baptist Church and of the American Legion.


Preceding him in death are his parents, Albin and Oma; wife, Ann; son, Marty Firestone and sister, Daphne Bowden.


Survivors include his loving spouse, Nancy Marler of Duncan; daughters, Belinda Harris of Duncan and Ginger Carr and husband Charles of Velma; special companion, Elsa, his poodle; brothers, Sonny Firestone and wife Joyce of Velma and Keith Firestone and wife Lela of Alma; sister, Betty Humphrey and husband Charles of Aledo, TX; six grandchildren, Kevin Harris, Stephanie Garmon, Brittney Carr, Chaz Carr, Marty Keith Firestone, and Taylor Firestone; 15 great grandchildren; bonus son, Mike Marler and wife Shannon of Oklahoma City; former daughter-in-law, Rebecca Firestone of Marlow; numerous other family and a multitude of friends.


Pallbearers were Kevin Harris, Chaz Carr, Marty Keith Firestone, Jason Garmon, Allen Firestone, Mike Marler and Charles Carr, Jr..


Family Visitation was Sunday 4-6 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel at Velma.
