Betty Adams, beloved wife of Kenneth Adams, mother, friend and sister, passed away on July 9, 2016, from injuries sustained in a fall on June 20. She was surrounded by the loving presence family at the time of her death. She was 81 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Essie Bryce, her sister, Patsy McKay, and her brother, Jim Bryce. Her beloved sister, Peggy Harper, lives in Meridian, Oklahoma.
Betty Bryce Adams was born in Ringling, Oklahoma on Dec. 11,1934, to Homer and Essie Bryce. She was one of four children who were raised on the family farm in Hastings, Oklahoma. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1952 and attended Oklahoma A&M for one year.
On July 22, 1955, she married Kenneth Adams in Lawton, Oklahoma. They made their home in Duncan, and were married this month for 61 years. They have four children: Kenna Webb and her husband Gary of Bray, Oklahoma, Stacye White of Cypress, Texas, Janna Reyna of Duncan, and Russell Adams and his wife Rhonda of Chandler, Arizona. They have 10 grandchildren: Daniel Webb, Sara Long, Jacob Webb, Emily White, Kathryn White, Joshua Brown, Hannah Brown, Lauren Bruner, Zachary Adams and Whitney Thompson. They also have nine great-grandchildren: Austin Long, Ashton Long, Alyson Long, Addyson Webb, Norah Webb, Claudia Webb, Kenneth Brown, Kennedy Brown, Graham Bruner and Emmalyn Thompson. She loved her family dearly and was at her happiest when spending time with them.
Kenneth and Betty have been members of Stephens United Methodist Church their entire married life. Betty was active in the church serving on committees, on the board, and other community outreach programs.
Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed making ceramics, sewing, embroidery and fishing. For many years, she had a ceramic business in her home. In recent years, she shared that love of ceramics with others at the Douglas Senior Center. Her favorite thing to paint was Old World Santas. Before her leg was amputated in 1999, she loved to go fishing. She especially enjoyed taking her grandchildren fishing at Halliburton Park.
Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carter-Smart Funeral Home. Services to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday July 14, 2016. A private Graveside service will be at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at Stephens United Methodist Church.
