Carole Brown Obituary

Lawton - Visitation for Carole Brown will take place from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home in Lawton, Oklahoma.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, also at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Carole Jeanne Brown, a brilliant and accomplished attorney, loving wife and mother, passed away Dec. 21, 2025, at the age of 80. She was admired for her intelligence, independence and quick wit. She was born July 28, 1945, in Oklahoma City and raised in Comanche, Oklahoma.

Carole had a remarkable memory and an uncanny ability to recall even the smallest details. Strong-willed and famously stubborn, often with a bit of humor, she lived life with conviction, integrity and determination. She will be remembered as a remarkable woman who left a lasting impression on those who knew her.

Through determination, hard work and perseverance, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1976, followed by her Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1980. She was admitted to practice law in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma in 1982, where she later established her own legal practice, something she took great pride in.

Carole had a deep love for animals, who held a special place in her heart throughout her life. She loved gardening, riding horses, spending time outdoors and enjoyed watching hummingbirds, small moments of beauty that brought her quiet happiness. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

In 1984, Carole married Tommy Gunn. For more than 41 years, they shared a life together, finding joy in riding horses and camping with friends. Carole is survived by her husband, Tommy Gunn; her son, Joseph Brown; her stepdaughter, Heather Burns; and her brother, James Brown. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Sadie Brown and Julia Yones, and many other loving friends and family. Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Sue Brown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marie Detty Youth and Family Services in Lawton, Oklahoma, in her honor.
