Chester Ray Powers Obituary

Duncan - Chester Ray Powers, a longtime resident of Duncan, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 23, 2025, at his home. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Bethesda Church of God, with Pastor Johnny Gray and Pastor Harold Matheny officiating, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Duncan City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30.

Chester was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Olustee, Oklahoma to John Thomas Powers and Claudia Faye Pell Powers. He and Vera Frances Biffle were united in marriage in Comanche, March 23, 1962. Chester worked as a truck driver for many years. He was a longtime member of Bethesda Church of God, where he served as a Royal Rangers leader, and also served as a bus driver and the church clerk. He was a very active member of the church. He also enjoyed woodworking, working on vehicles, farming and taking care of horses. Chester also loved collecting coins, and knives.

Survivors include his loving wife, Vera, of the home; three children: Tim Powers and wife Michele, Little Elm, Texas; Thomas Powers and wife Melinda, Duncan, Oklahoma; and Judy Owens and husband Eddie, Duncan, Oklahoma; his grandchildren: Braden Powers, Aaron Powers, Alex Lash and husband Lucas, Abigail Gonzalez and husband Coty, Sara Gonzalez, Shawn Bohannan and wife Sarah, and Brian Bohannan and wife Eva; also 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Dueward, John, Irene, Juanita, Mary, Thomas, Nancy, Arnetta, Jewell and Robert.
