Following a lengthy illness, Christopher Ray "Chris" Newman passed away peacefully July 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at home. Chris was born March 20, 1948, at the Angus Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Ray and Rosemary (Ballew) Newman. He grew up in Lawton, where he attended Swinney Elementary, St. Mary's Catholic School, Tomlinson Junior High and graduated from Lawton High School in 1966.
In his young childhood, Chris lived many years in Germany, Italy and Turkey.
Chris married Carolyn Brox Aug. 16, 1968, and from this union they were blessed with two sons and a daughter: Michael Ray, Mark Auston and Melissa Diane.
He attended Cameron University, where he participated in ROTC and was involved in the Keithley Rifle Corp. He graduated in 1971 with a bachelor's in Business Administration degree. During the summers, Chris sold Biblical reference books door-to-door across the Southeastern United States for Southwestern Book Company. Following graduation, he enjoyed a 10-year career with Pizza Hut. Chris decided to join the family team at Brox Industries. After a long 30-year distinguished career with Brox Industries, he retired in 2012. Following retirement, Chris and Carolyn traveled with friends. Chris spent his free time playing snooker with some Duncan friends. He also organized several informal "clubs" with other friends including the Cookie Club, Coffee Club and the Bad Dudes, which was a group of guys from his high school and college days. Chris had a natural gift of gab, and he loved to visit with everyone. Chris loved his family very much, and he met with his mom, stepdad, and brother and sisters for lunch every day for more than 25 years. Every Friday, the lunch bunch could be found at Braum's on Lee Boulevard.
Chris was loved by everyone he met, and he had a true servant's heart. For more than 25 years he volunteered with the March of Dimes. He was a big supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
He loved playing and watching sports. He enjoyed attending his children's sporting events and frequently coached their various sports.
He attended Spring Creek Assembly of God in Edmond but had been a long-time member of Bethel Assembly of God in Duncan.
Chris is survived by his wife of the home; three children and their spouses: Michael and Huong Mai Newman, of Washington D.C., Mark and Annye Newman, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Melissa and Matthew Krause, also of Edmond, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Chelsea Newman, Linus Newman, Haley Newman, Brett Newman and wife Brooke, Garrett Krause, Gage Krause, and Gracie Krause; three sisters: Connie Hakimipour, Jane and Raymond Miles, and Laura and Marshall Clevenger; in-laws Julie Brox, Diane and Dan Mullins, Steve and Katie Brox, lots of nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins and loving friends.
