March 31, 1923 - Aug. 21, 2012 Ernest E. "Booney Pa" Bruner, was born to James and Jennie Bruner on March 31, 1923, in Collinsville, and passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at the age of 89, in Duncan. Ernie was the youngest of eight children. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen Gillispie officiating. Burial will follow at the New Velma Cemetery, Velma, under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Ernie married Winnie (Booney Ma) Cassell of Pottsboro, Texas, on Nov. 21, 1942. The Booney's celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary Nov. 21, 2011, with family and friends. He served in the South Pacific during World War II with his "Fox Hole Buddy" Lee Moore, of Louisville, Kent. While living in Velma, Booney Pa and Booney Ma raised their four children: Jane, Bud, Becky and Bobby, and enjoyed watching them participate in all their school activities and supported their school. They had joined the Velma Baptist Church and loved the church and the people. Booney Pa worked in the Velma area for several construction companies building roads to many locations that did not have roads. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Buddy Bruner; a daughter, Jane Bryant; a daughter-in-law, Candy Bruner; a son-in-law, Bear Bryant; four brothers; and three sisters. Booney Pa is survived by his wife, Booney Ma, of the home; Becky and Charlie Lambert of Weatherford,, Bobby and Suzy Bruner of Duncan, and Jimmie Bruner of Duncan; grandchildren: Rhonda (Bryant) Koelsch of Owasso, Rodney Bryant of Nampa, Idaho, Brent Bruner of Cushing, Brad Bruner and Barry Bruner, both of DeMoines, Iowa, Amy (Bruner) and Joey Shelby of Comanche, Christy (Lambert) and Mike Rogers of Cheyenne, and Charley and Shelby Hall of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and great-grandchildren: Kayla Koelsch, Taylor Koelsch, Ashlyn Koelsch, Daniel Bryant, Rachel Bryant, Stephen Bryant, Hayli Shelby, Hunter Shelby, Jordan Shelby, Landyn Shelby, Alec Rogers, Candace Rogers, Karly Bruner and Braeden Bruner. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Rodney Bryant, Brent Bruner, Brad Bruner, Barry Bruner, Terry Koelsch, Mike Rogers and Joey Shelby. Honorary Bearers are his great-grandsons: Daniel Bryant, Stephen Bryant, Alec Rogers, Braeden Bruner and Landyn Shelby.
