Garland W. Davis Obituary

Kingston - Garland W. Davis, age 77, of Kingston, Oklahoma, passed away on August 25, 2025.

Garland was born Aug. 8, 1948, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Lum Davis and Freddie (Hays) Davis. He grew up in Meridian and graduated from Comanche High School.

On Aug. 26, 1968, Garland married the love of his life, Kathryn Ann Dyer. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he honorably served his country. Following his service, Garland began a long and dedicated career with Halliburton Services, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2013. After retiring, Garland and Kathy moved to Kingston to enjoy life near Lake Texoma.

In addition to his career, Garland devoted himself to his community. He officiated high school football for many years, served on the Comanche Board of Education for 27 years, and in retirement volunteered on the board of the Oakridge community, where he continued to give back in meaningful ways.

Garland enjoyed traveling, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories with those he loved. He especially cherished his role as "Poppie" to his grandchildren - always cheering them on, celebrating their milestones, and taking pride in watching them grow.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Thomas L. Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Kathryn; his son Brian Davis (Jennifer) of Henderson, Texas; his niece Shelly Filer (Keith) of Thompsons Station, Tennessee; and his grandchildren: Jaycee Gruenberg (Paige) of Claremore, Oklahoma, Dylan Vavra of Boulder, Colorado, Ethan Filer of Lexington, Kentucky, and Gracyn Filer of Knoxville, Tennessee.

A celebration of Garland's life will be held at a later date.
