James Montgomery Ferguson Obituary

Duncan - James Montgomery Ferguson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully Sept. 9, 2025, in Duncan, Oklahoma, at the age of 88. Jim was born June 30, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Raised in Marlow, Jim graduated from Marlow High School in 1956. Following high school, Jim attended Kemper Military Junior College where he played quarterback on the football team and ran track. In 1960, Jim enlisted

with the regular Army where he served 3 ½ years with the 7th Army NCO Academy in Bad Tolz, Germany. After his service in the army, Jim returned home to Marlow. On Sept. 18, 1965, he married the love of his life, Susan Spivey. Within a few years, they purchased a ranch with a pecan orchard near Loco, Oklahoma. Along with other pursuits, Jim spent years ranching and harvesting pecans for himself and others as far as San Saba, Texas. He also enjoyed being a firefighter with the Loco Volunteer Fire Department and working with the Rural Water Department. He had many friends and fond memories of living at Loco. In 1996, Jim and Susan moved back to Marlow and his childhood home, built by his great-grandfather, Richard Chamblee, where they lived since. Jim was a board member of the Marlow-founded Lion Oil Co., Inc., from the late 1980s until 2025. He could often be found with his nose in a book or the daily newspaper. He loved traveling and had a particular love for Scotland, being proud of his Scottish heritage. Along with being an avid OU Sooner fan, Jim was also a long-time member of the local coffee club which was marked by laughter and camaraderie. Jim had a wonderfully detailed memory, especially of Marlow history, and his storytelling was legendary.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents Clyde Chamblee and Zelda Ellena (Montgomery) Ferguson and beloved brother Dr. Clyde Randolph Ferguson.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Susan Ferguson; son Mac Ferguson of Norman; son Lee Ferguson of Marlow; daughter Claudette Foster and her husband Danny Foster of Velma; grandchildren: Micaela Ferguson, Adam Spohn, and Lauren Spohn; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, at the Marlow Cemetery with T.J. Seymour officiating. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marlow First United Methodist Church or the Loco Volunteer Fire Department.
