Duncan, Oklahoma - Karen Louise (Bailey) Davidson, 73, of Duncan, passed away January 11, 2024 surrounded by her family. Karen was born April 9, 1950 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Rayburn & Opal Bailey. She was the second of three children. She attended Duncan Public Schools and graduated from Duncan High School in 1968.
She met Larry at Plato Road Baptist Church playing volleyball and their first date was youth trip to Six Flags. She married Larry at Plato Baptist Church on July 26, 1973.
They had three children; daughters; Melanie Simpson and her husband Michael of Duncan, Rebecca Doughty and her husband Scotty of Ninnekah and son; Michael Davidson and his wife Becky of Duncan. Karen is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brother Larry Bailey of Duncan, Oklahoma and a sister; Barbara Newkirk of Sonora, Texas.
Karen was a member of the GFWC Owl Club, Red Hat Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies of
"68" and Western Heights Baptist Church.
Karen was a stay at home mom when her kids were little so she could attend school functions and ballgames. She was a campfire leader for years and she and Larry's house was the Candy Shop for the annual candy sale for campfire. Karen also sold tupperware and let her children be the audience so she could practice selling products. She was so good at selling Tupperware that she got to go to see her favorite singer of all time's home in Grace Land in Memphis, Tennessee. She toured his home, airplane and listened to all his music. When her kids were little older, Karen decided to return to work as a Nurse's Assistant in 1992. She decided to further her nursing career and went to LPN School. She was an LPN at Duncan Regional Hospital and worked on multiple floors, as well as Labor & Delivery, retiring in 2012.
Karen and Larry were active in a bowling league for many years, and they loved to travel and went to Hawaii, Nashville, Tennessee, Florida and went on a cruise to Mexico, trips to Branson, Colorado, New Mexico and Pennsylvania. Karen was very artistic and loved to cook and bake. When her kids were little, she made their birthday cakes. She loved to make decorations such as wreaths, holiday decor, painted ceramics and she loved knitting. She made wreaths to sell at auction for her Owl's Club to raise money. She was very good at making crafts. After retirement she and Larry were involved with their grandchildrens school functions.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Opal & Rayburn Bailey and a sister-in-law; Pattie Bailey.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Tommy Howell officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche, Oklahoma. Arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.
Family visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Brent Newkirk, Kent Newkirk, Cleon Bailey, Shawn Bailey, Mike Burch and Jerry Whatley. Honorary pallbearer will be Keith Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Duncan Regional Hospital Foundation/ Nursing Scholarship or GWAC Owl Club.
