Mustang - Larry Don Rodgers, 78, of Mustang, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026. He was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, Aug. 29, 1947, to his beloved parents Martin Luther (ML) Rodgers and Bonnie D. Smith.

After high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed at El Toro, California. Larry served a tour at Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam. He ended his service and honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps at the rank of Sergeant.

Following his military service, he joined the Oklahoma City Police Department, completing his basic training Dec. 12, 1969, and he quickly became known as "Buck" Rodgers. He received numerous awards, commendations, and recognitions. He obtained an Associate of Science Degree in Police Science from Oklahoma State University in 1973.

Larry continued his criminal justice education by attending the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice's FBI National Academy at Quantico completing his training in December 1981.

He continued other life-long learning goals by obtaining his pilot's license in July 1984.

He worked as a detective and multiple other positions and held the rank of Lieutenant prior to his retirement.

Larry was a loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather and cherished and enjoyed numerous friends and relatives. He enjoyed watching westerns, visiting casinos and traveling, especially if it was piloting his airplane. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be remembered by those who knew him as highly intelligent, high morales and integrity, a great sense of humor, a great heart and will be greatly missed by all.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle; his sister Janita and husband Mike; his daughter, Cassi Twiehaus and her husband Jeff; and his bonus daughter Carrie Croy; as well as his grandchildren: Megan, Tanner, Presley and Gage.

Visitation will be held at noon Thursday, July 30, 2026, at McNeil's Funeral Service, Mustang, Oklahoma with service following at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at Yukon Cemetery, Yukon, Oklahoma.
