Duncan - Leo Edwin Stiewert, 90, of Duncan, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, in his home surrounded by his family. He was a cherished member of his community and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and service to others.

Leo was born Dec. 16, 1934, to John George Stiewert and Pauline Ida Eschberger Stiewert in Haskell, Texas. His first jobs were driving a school bus for Matson School District and working as a farm hand. He graduated from Matson High School and started his career in the petroleum industry in 1953. He married Frances Allene Mullins May 30, 1953. They were married over 70 years and together they had three daughters. Their family moved from Texas to Velma, Oklahoma in 1967 where they eventually purchased their own oil producing properties. In 1982, Leo and Fran moved to Duncan where they bought and managed rental properties. Over his long career, Leo worked for General American Oil, Jones Oil and Butkin Oil, where he served as production foreman until the age of 85.

Leo served as a volunteer firefighter in Velma and was a member of the Velma-Alma School Board. He was a long-time member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Leo had a generous heart and served by giving his time and talents. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed many games of golf, and he and Fran loved to dance. More recently, he filled his schedule "helping" his Dallas Cowboys win on Sundays, kept active playing dominoes with his friends five days a week and even an occasional evening game. He was known for his sense of humor and had a reputation as a bit of a prankster. His commitment to his faith and community left a profound impact on those who knew him.

Leo is survived by his loving family: Linda Havely and husband Pete of Joplin, MO; Dianna Carlton and husband Bob of San Antonio, TX; and Michelle Rue and husband Johnny of Duncan, OK. Better known as "Pop" by his six grandchildren and their families: David Havely and Marcia Bunn, Steven and Ashley Havely, Tierney Hodges, Logan Seals, Alyssa Rue and Danny Van, Parker Seals and Alyssa Lumpee. Pop also had three great-grandchildren: Harper and Hudson Havely and Thatcher Hodges. Leo is also survived by a sister-in-law Mary Counts, of Midland, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

He now joins his loved ones who have preceded him in death, including his wife Fran, his parents, his brother Raymond and his sister Leora.

Leo Stiewert's unwavering spirit, kindness and dedication to his community will be dearly missed and remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him ... We love you Pop.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Leo's life at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. David Gardner officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Whitt Funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers are: Tommy Jackson, Chance Jenkins, Tanner Jenkins, Frank Ross, James Shepherd and Shawn Thompson

Honorary pallbearers are: Jim Davis, J.C. Golden, Leonard Jackson, Keith Redece ... and all his friends and domino partners from the Velma and Marlow Senior Citizens Centers.
