Norman Lee Cobbs, 87, of Austin, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in Austin, Texas.
Graveside funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Duncan Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating, arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Norman Lee Cobbs was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Ursula, Arkansas, son of Floyd and Ruby Carr Cobbs. He married Deloris Womack Dec. 17, 1949, in Lindsey, California. He is survived by his wife; son Randall Cobbs and wife Melissa of Austin, Texas; and daughter Teresa and husband Jack Reynolds of Grapevine, Texas. Two grandchildren, Sam Reynolds of Maui, Hawaii, and Andi Corley of Palestine, Texas. Three great-grandchildren, Graham and Caroline Corley and Noa Reynolds. His brother Carl and wife Myrna Cobbs of Utah; his sister Wanda and husband Ben Stapleton of Florida; and sister-in-law Lavon and husband Gene Hendricks of Duncan.
Norman was raised in Porterville, California. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Veteran serving in active duty during WWII and Korea, then stayed in the reserves for 12 years. He had a building contract license in California working for the City of Los Angeles. He retired from Kimberly Clark Company in Paris, Texas, in 1994, working as an industrial machine technician. Moved to Duncan, in 1996 until moving back to Texas to be near his children. Norman and his wife were presently living in Austin, Texas. He also served as a Boy Scout leader in Denison, Texas. Norman was a gifted artist creating beautiful oil paintings and an accomplished woodcrafter.
