Patricia Ann Louis passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2023, having lived, in her recent words, "a very blessed life." Pat was born on November 9, 1936, in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was the first born of three children to the late Hugh Henry and Wylla Louise Leonard.

In 1955, Pat left Duncan to attend Smith College on a scholarship for two years. She received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Oklahoma in 1959, and her Master of Social Work from the University of Texas in 1976. In 1960, she married her OU college sweetheart, Wm. Roger Louis. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979.

In Austin, Pat had a highly successful and fulfilling career as a social worker at Child and Family Services, and later, as a psychotherapist in private practice. She was known for her keen intelligence, kindhearted nature, brilliant spirit, and a love for all the arts. The greatest joys of her life were living in Oxford, New Haven and Austin, her two children, the deep love she held for her daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, her dedication to personal and professional growth, and her enriching friendships.

In 2016, Pat married an old high school sweetheart, Thomas W. Howe, Jr.

Pat lived an examined life. She leaves an enduring legacy of profound kindness, inspiration, compassion, and love.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Wylla Leonard, sister, Wylla Jane Leonard, and sister-in-law, Nancy Ray Leonard. She is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Howe, Jr., son, Antony Andrew Louis and wife, Joni, daughter, Catherine Ann Louis, grandchildren, Lauren Logan and Drew Louis, brother, Phillip Leonard and wife, Carol; and, five nieces and nephews.

Pat's ashes will be interned at Resthaven Memorial Garden in Duncan, Oklahoma. Information about a memorial service will be made available at www.whittfh.com. A full-length obituary is available at this site. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to a favorite charity.
