Wesley Wayne Newman was born to Wesley John and Pearl Estella (Barber) Newman July 6, 1931, in Duncan, Oklahoma and departed this life June 11, 2025, at his home in Walters at the age of 93 years, 11 months and five days.
Wayne attended Thomspon School for first and second grade and then attended Burrows through the ninth grade. He then attended Velma Alma, graduating in 1950 before heading off to Oklahoma A&M. He married Carol Ann Lemons April 2, 1953, at First Baptist Church in Walters. They made their home in Stillwater for a year while Wayne finished his BS in animal science. They made Walters their home, but for a time in Texas and Alabama. The couple raised three kids: Ann, Randy and Robert.
Wayne had two long careers that ran simultaneously and he also enjoyed ranching on top of that. He joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and was stationed for two years at Fort Sill. He then joined the Army Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after 37 years combined. During that time, he also worked a 34-year career in civil service at Sheppard Airforce Base. He retired from there in 1987 as the Head of Instructors for Aircraft Maintenance.
After the loss of Carol Ann March 15, 2007, Wayne eventually remarried Virginia Maby (Johnson) Lovett Nov. 14, 2007, in Duncan. They made their home at her house southwest of Marlow until her passing Jan. 31, 2022. Wayne eventually returned to his home in Walters.
Wayne was a compassionate man, and was all about God, country and family. Having been saved in January 1950, Wayne loved the Lord. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Walters for many years, serving as deacon (ordained in 1959), Sunday school teacher and director. He enjoyed ranching, fishing, doing woodwork and making knives.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two wives, Carol Ann and Virginia; son Randy Newman; stepson Randy Lovett; four brothers, infant John Wendell, Imon, Allen Lee and Paul Newman; and sister Wynola Eaton.
Wayne is survived by: daughter and son-in-law Ann Marie and Jimmy King of Walters; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Karen Newman of Walters; brother Philip Newman and Deanna of Duncan; two sisters: Mary Fern Stewart of Edmond and Melva Hines of Sulphur; three sisters-in-law: Francine Newman and Marsha Newman both of Duncan and Janette Lemons of Edmond; five grandchildren: Candi Gail Mays and Mickey, kids Kayla and Jordyn of Pink, Oklahoma, Kasie Lynn Thompson and Shane, kids Paisley and Cord of Pink, Oklahoma, Cody Wayne Newman of Walters, James Wesley King and Anne, kids Briley, James Robert, Jackson and Luke of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Justin Ray King and Jessica, kids Emma and Ella of Walters; his beloved family through Virginia, sons Gary and wife Vicki Lovett, Steve and wife Kathy Lovett, daughter-in-law Angie Lovett; and a host of her many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild.
