Wilburn  Thompson Jr.


Wilburn Thompson Jr., passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Duncan, at the age of 65.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Joe Ligon and Pastor Simmon Harjo officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow. A Prayer Service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow. Family Visitation will be Wednesday, September 10, 2019 at 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow.

Junior was born Wednesday, March 10, 1954 in Lawton, OK, to Wilburn Sr.and Elizabeth (York) Thompson. He had lived in the Duncan area for more than 42 years and had graduated from Marlow High School. He attend college at Haskell Junior College and East Central College. Junior married the love of his life, Dianna Shannon in Marlow on September 20, 1971. They had been married for 47 wonderful years before his passing. Junior was an active member in the community with the youth. He coached youth football, baseball, wrestling, and track for more than 20 years. Junior also enjoyed umpiring and chief for little league baseball for more than 15 years. He also was active with the OSSAA football and wrestling official for more than 40 years. Although Junior enjoyed mentoring young athletes; his most prized time was spent with his grandchildren that he loved and adored. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marlow.

Survivors include, wife, Dianna Thompson of the home, 3 sons, Wilburn "Willie" Thompson, III and wife Amanda of Dallas, TX, Cody Lynn Thompson and wife Amber of Tuttle, Todd Nichloas Thompson of Marlow, 6 grandchildren, Isabella Kadin Thompson, Hannah Elizabeth Thompson, Arawyn Grace Thompson, Cody "Reed" Thompson, Wilburn "Nash" Thompson, IV, Gabrielle "Quinn" Thompson, 3 brothers, Elmer Lee Thompson of Gladwater, TX, Donnie Thompson and wife Marcella of Duncan, Ronnie Thompson and wife Kathy of Marlow, 4 sisters, Lucielle Harjo and husband Wayne of Okemah, Tiwanna England and husband Gary of Duncan, Jeannie Dilbeck and husband Chris of Duncan, Sallie Lakey and husband Mont of Marlow. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Margaret Shannon, a sister-in-law, Vickie Stewart, and a brother-in-law, Donald Shannon, Jr.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Annabell Stiger, and a brother-in-law, Darrel Shannon.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Cancer Center of Southwest Oklahoma in Junior's Honor.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: the members of Junior's Football Officiating Crew.

Uncle Jr, You will be missed so much, you were 1 of a kind, You were Aydens inspiration to wrestle and always will be! I am so glad that mom,the kids and I, got to visit with you a week ago at elk crossing,I hugged your neck over and over and I will cherish those HUGS FOREVER,this isn't goodbye but see you later,Fly high with the Angels UNCLE JR 💙I love you, your niece

So sorry to hear of Jrs passing. We have precious memories of North Heights and of the boys when they were small. Jr set the bar high as a wonderful father,Willy ,Cody and Todd were blessed.
