William Albert " Bill" Gardner Feb. 26, 1917 - Nov. 4, 2011 William Albert " Bill" Gardner, 94, of Duncan, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, in Duncan. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Duncan Cemetery, with the Rev. Tracy L. Wilson officiating, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bill was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Atoka, the son of Francis " Frank" V. and Collie A. Davenport Gardner. After graduating from Central High School in Muskogee in 1934, he went on to Oklahoma A&M, graduating in 1938 with a bachelors degree in chemical engineering. He then served in the U.S. Army before World War II. He married Geraldine Ellis Nov. 11, 1939, in Duncan. She preceded him in death Feb. 7, 2006. He was member of the Church of Christ. He started his career working for Rock Island Refinery as a chemist, then spent the next 34 years working for Halliburton as a design engineer, retiring in February of 1974. In addition to his work at Halliburton, Bill invented an intermittent positive pressure breathing device and devoted much time growing this business into a life-saving avenue for the many people it touched. Originally, the business was begun with the encouragement of Earl P. Halliburton, who was a chronic asthmatic and the founder of Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company. Bill's efforts in the lung therapy business enabled him to eventually hire two other employees, one for technical and mechanical endeavors and one as a sales representative working through Ohio Chemical and Manufacturing, which gave him nationwide representation. Bill is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nora A. Ellis Burns and husband Thomas, of Duncan, and Bobbie Clinkenbeard and husband, Harold, of Dallas, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine; parents, Frank V. and Collie A. Gardner; and a sister, Frances Victoria Gardner Davis. Online condolences may be made at www.granthamfuneralhomes.com.
