Visitation is planned from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9 at New Hope Baptist Church West with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Rodney Martin, Jeff Taylor, Joseph Edwards and Christopher Newport. Interment will follow at the Alma (Oklahoma) Cemetery.

William worked as a truck driver from 1951 to 1952 in Duncan prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy in late 1952. While serving, William received his GED. He was deployed during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a Naval Chief after serving for 20 years. After his Navy time, he worked at Halliburton for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing and working crossword puzzles. He raised many gardens over his lifetime and enjoyed watching birds spending time with his beloved dog, Poochie. He loved watching his grandchildren and telling his children what to do. William loved New Hope Baptist Church West, where he was a member, and would want to be remembered as a God-fearing man.

William is survived by three children: Leigh Shawn, Russell Shawn, Debbie Shawn; grandchildren: Chantelle Lawrence, Kathryn Shawn (Chris Newport), William Shawn (Lauren), Adrienne Davis, Israel Davis; and great-grandchildren: Saya Jenkins, Reiya Shawn, Kadin Shawn, Rylan Shawn, Andrew Huston, Issac Huston, Xyline Harlan and Alexis Harlan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda K. Shawn; son, Charles William Shawn; and six siblings.
